Painting: More Than Just Colour
A substantial portion of the renovation work involved painting, and it wasn’t long until Kelly realised that there was a lot more to it than she thought. She tells us, “When you’re renovating, you’re doing every room. I’ve probably spent more time on paint than anything else. I’ve learnt that paint isn’t just colour on a wall. It has to last, withstand everything, and look amazing while doing it.”
Over the course of her renovation, Kelly worked with our teams on a wide range of projects, from choosing colours for her middle room to painting her exterior. She received technical guidance on how to do the jobs and what kinds of paint to use, as well as support from our Colour Team on palettes and schemes throughout her home.
Mistakes for a first-time renovator are part of the process and Kelly was no exception. So, what was the most important thing she learnt on her painting journey? “Prep and primer were the biggest learning curves for me; you can’t skip this step. And learning that different surfaces need different types of primer – I learnt that one the hard way!” After a mishap involving PVA bond and kitchen walls, she sought the guidance of our Bachelor’s Quay team:
“The thing I love about Pat McDonnell Paints is that they never make you feel stupid for not knowing something. They always ask lots of questions to help you and fix the problem. Because I was in and out of the store so often, they remembered me and would ask how I was getting on. And interestingly, I’ve been to two different stores, and they were both the same in terms of how nice they were.”
